The National Broad Consumer Price Index – 15 (IPCA-15) rose 0.55% in January, after having increased 0.52% in December 2022. The indicator, which is considered a preview of the country’s official inflation, was released on Tuesday morning (24) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The number was within the range of estimates captured by “Projeções Broadcast”, from 0.43% to 0.67%. In other words: above the median, of 0.52%. With the result announced for this month, the IPCA-15 in 12 months has increased by 5.87%, compared to a rate of 5.90% until December.
Food & beverage prices increased by 0.55% in January, after increasing by 0.69% in December. The group made a positive contribution of 0.12 percentage points to the IPCA-15 for the month, according to IBGE.
IPCA-15: rising prices for food consumed at home
Among the components of the food and beverage group measured by the IBGE for the IPCA-15, food consumed at home rose 0.61% in January, after having increased 0.78% in the previous month. On the other hand, food consumed outside the home rose 0.39%, compared to a rise of 0.45% in December.
