The 2022/23 corn harvest is 27.6% more expensive than last season. The total cost of sowing one hectare with the cereal in Mato Grosso was R$5,610.78. Only the operating expenses, which directly influence the effective operating cost (COE), showed an increase of 39.52%.
The figures refer to the production cost of high-tech corn for the 2022/23 harvest. In the 2021/22 harvest, according to a survey by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), producers spent R$4,395.84 to sow one hectare.
In the 2022/23 corn harvest, Mato Grosso is expected to sow 7.42 million hectares. The outlook points to a productivity of 104.29 bags per hectare and a record production of 46.41 million tons. Fertilizers rise by almost 60% in corn
The survey also highlights that when the cost indicators are analyzed separately, the cost of fertilizers increased by 56.25%, mechanized operations by 47.76% and soil corrective by 39.37%.
“This increase is linked to the constant rise in input prices in the last harvest year. Proof of this is that the average price of urea in Mato Grosso increased by 42.50%, diesel by 45.13% and dolomitic limestone by 43.92%, in the period from January to December 2022, compared to the same period in 2021”, highlights Imea.
