“What we need most is the Federal Government’s willingness to unlock these important projects for the development of our state.” This statement was made by the governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes, during a meeting with President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, when he defended the priority of the works on federal highways 158, 242 and 163.
The meeting took place on Friday morning (27) in Brasília (DF) and was attended by all the governors of the country.
During a meeting with the president of the Republic, Mauro Mendes once again defended the importance of the logistics infrastructure works for the flow of production and for the movement of the population of Mato Grosso, especially the BR-163, which was requested to be widened between Sinop and the border with the state of Pará.
“This dialogue is commendable and we need to continue it to build an agenda that benefits Mato Grosso and the country,” stated the governor of Mato Grosso.
On BR-158, the governor requested that the paving of the highway be completed on the route from the town of Alô Brasil, in Bom Jesus do Araguaia, to the junction with MT-322, in Norte-Araguaia-Xingu. Regarding BR-242, the request was to pave the stretch that connects the district of Santiago do Norte to Querência.
Mendes had already asked the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, on Thursday (26) to commit to unblocking the works on BRs 158 and 242, in addition to Ferrogrão.
Common demands of the Consórcio Brasil Central
In addition to his commitment to the demands of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes presented the priorities of each state that is part of the Consórcio Brasil Central, of which he is president. Furthermore, he presented the three main demands that all of them have in common: the opening of the Financing Fund of the Central-West (FCO) to other banks, since it is currently exclusive to Banco do Brasil, which charges fees; the regularization of land tenure in 80% of the federal areas of the Central-West states; and the feasibility of a railroad whose route will connect Brasília (DF) to Goiânia (GO).
“For my part, I want the governors to know that the office door will be open and the phone will be ready to answer any demand. And that no governor should have any qualms about calling to demand what he believes he should demand,” declared President Lula at the meeting.
