Since the health alert issued in December in Argentina by the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) to prevent the entry of bird flu into the country, the number of reports of suspected cases of the disease has increased. To date, however, analyses carried out on samples taken from birds in the agency’s laboratory have shown negative results.
Last month, Senasa received reports and samples of 34 suspected cases of bird flu and, to date, another nine suspected cases that were ruled out in laboratory analyses. The latter were in the provinces of Entre Ríos (commercial birds), Catamarca (backyard birds) and in Chubut, La Pampa and Mar del Plata (wild birds).
Preventive actions against bird flu
In a note, the agency emphasizes the need to reinforce the procedures that constitute the immediate response of the veterinary service, in order to prevent the spread of the disease throughout Argentina and, thus, mitigate its impact.
