Intergen, launched by Embrapa in 2008, now incorporates genomic data, ensuring greater accuracy in genetic improvement in the country

With the launch of the new version of Intergen, Embrapa places Brazil on an equal footing with the main genetic improvement programs in the world. In addition to offering more advanced statistical methods, the update makes the software more accessible for commercial use and promotes academic development in the area.

Marcos Yokoo, an animal genetic improvement researcher at Embrapa, emphasizes that the new modules will directly benefit programs such as Brangus +, PampaPlus and Promebo, expanding the capacity for genetic evaluation to a greater number of genotyped animals. “This update will allow faster and more efficient analyses, contributing to the continued advancement of bovine genetics in Brazil,” says Yokoo.

Intergen is essential software for genetic studies in several productive species, and is used free of charge to support scientific research. The introduction of the new version reinforces Embrapa’s commitment to offering increasingly advanced and accurate tools for the national agricultural sector.

“The Intergen update represents a significant milestone for bovine genetics in Brazil, allowing for a more robust and reliable assessment of important characteristics for production systems,” concludes Junqueira.
