In the United States, more than 60 million birds have already been slaughtered due to bird flu. There are 47 states facing problems there. In the case of the European Union, countries such as France, in addition to Eastern Europe, are facing the worst outbreaks in history. There is also a shortage of eggs in the United Kingdom, and consumers are buying eggs by quota. The challenge is global. In Latin America, bird flu has already reached countries such as Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. But Brazil remains free of the disease. According to Luis Rua, director of markets at the Brazilian Animal Protein Association, there will be no shortage of protein here. “Brazilian production for 2023 is estimated at 51 billion units. We should not have a shortage,” he says. Rua also spoke about Peru’s opening to Brazilian pork and commented on the increase in turkey meat exports in 2022.
