Argentina’s National Service for Health and Agrifood Quality (Senasa) has decided to strengthen epidemiological surveillance on the country’s northern border following the discovery of avian flu in Bolivia, where the disease was confirmed on a farm in Cochabamba.
The security measures taken by Senasa include mobilizing specialized agents to offices located on the border with Bolivia, providing information on the importance of reporting the discovery of birds with symptoms and deaths (whether from production, backyard or wild birds) and reinforcing biosecurity on commercial farms, in addition to working together with other public entities to monitor and control the movement of birds, poultry products and by-products.
In December, Senasa published Resolution 803, issuing a state of alert for the disease and requesting that the agency be notified of any suspected cases.
To date, no presence of the virus has been detected in Argentina.
