Since the weekend, more than 70 millimeters of rain have fallen in Espírito Santo, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Tocantins. In Luís Eduardo Magalhães, in western Bahia, the volume exceeded 80 millimeters. In the Southeast, the heavier rain caused the Cantareira reservoir to reach its highest level in January in the last six years, at 50.3% of its capacity.
This moisture has been beneficial for most crops, but this does not apply to sugarcane. This is because excess rain and the lack of light for maturation cause a decrease in sugar content, reducing the level of total recoverable sugar (ATR).
The storms will become more intense on Tuesday (23) over Minas Gerais, northern São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. The potential for disruptions increases over the next few days, due to the passage of the front on the high seas and the action of a low pressure system near the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
This flow of moisture causes a lot of rain over part of the Southeast and, therefore, the potential for disruptions will continue until at least Friday (27). In addition, unstable weather with many clouds and rain at any time in at least eight other points of the country: Goiás, Distrito Federal, inland Amazonas, north and coast of Pará, Amapá, the region of São Luís (MA), coast of Piauí and coast of Ceará.
Little rain and over 30ºC
The forecast is for little rain and more sun throughout the day from the coast of Rio Grande do Norte to the southern coast of Bahia. Highlights include a decrease in the volume of rain between Paraná and Santa Catarina, with more isolated showers in the eastern strip of the two states. In Rio Grande do Sul, stable and very dry weather, with heat of 35°C in several municipalities. Forecast for the next few days
In the coming days, the potential for disruptions increases between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Accumulated rainfall may range from 80 to 200 millimeters by the end of the week. Areas that have already been affected by rain since December are once again on alert for new disruptions in the coming days.
In addition, typical summer rain is expected, with storms in the Midwest, and the heat is gaining more and more strength in Rio Grande do Sul. Temperatures are expected to approach 40°C over the course of the week. Finally, the rain will return with greater force to the state of Rio Grande do Sul at the turn of the month.
